WILLIS' STORY

Willis Janvier is a proud Denesuline from northern Saskatchewan and the host of the Dene Yati Podcast, a platform dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and revitalizing the Dene language. A graduate of the First Nations University of Canada with a degree in Indigenous Social Work, Willis combines academic knowledge with lived experience to inspire conversations that strengthen Indigenous identity and community wellness.
Living a life of sobriety, Willis shares his story as a way to encourage healing, resilience, and positive change within Indigenous communities. Passionate about culture, language, and storytelling, he uses the podcast to share teachings, interviews, and reflections that encourage Dene people—especially youth—to take pride in their language and traditions. Beyond podcasting, he is also active in sports media, bringing his voice and perspective to hockey broadcasting and commentary on social media.
Willis’s work is grounded in the belief that language is medicine. By promoting Dene Yati (the Dene language) and living by example, he continues to advocate for healing, cultural resilience, and the importance of Indigenous voices in today’s world.
